Caps & Lids Recycling Scheme – Extended Pilot Launching
Following the standardisation of kerbside collections on the 1st of February 2024, lids and caps are no longer allowed in recycling bins nationwide. This has led to the 100% recyclable packaging commitment from many brands now being in jeopardy.
In response The Packaging Forum led an initial test investigating the feasibility of stewardship scheme for caps and lids. This was successful, and an extended pilot scheme is launching nationwide in the near future.
Manufacturers and importers of lids and caps are invited to participate in this scheme as well as producers (brand-owners). Please see the attached letter regarding scheme participation.

The Packaging Forum's Rob Langford shares an update on the Lids and Caps recovery scheme. The scheme is being designed as an alternative recovery system for untethered Lids and Caps, which are no longer accepted through kerbside collection.
Over the last 6 months, The Packaging Forum have led the co-design of the scheme. Feasibility trials have been conducted and we are excited to learn what's next!
