Operation Clean Sweep NZ: Relaunch Success & Next Steps
Together, we’re building momentum for cleaner waterways, and stronger environmental responsibility.
We relaunched the Operation Clean Sweep NZ Programme in May, introducing a three-year independent audit cycle supported by annual self-assessments.
This structure helps sites stay on top of pellet-loss risks while keeping the programme practical and achievable (Full details here).
Six months on, the results are encouraging, although there’s still work to be done:
Audit Progress
This year, 32 sites were scheduled for their independent re-audit. 20 have already completed their audits and been re-certified, or certified for the first time.
The deadline to complete the 2025/26 audits is 30 April 2026, giving the remaining sites plenty of time to schedule their audits.
Self Assessments
Annual self-assessments are providing valuable – helping teams spot areas at risk earlier, tidy up maintenance issues before they escalate, and reinforcing good housekeeping in everyday operations. To support this work, we’re providing checklist templates, OCS posters, and short training videos that can be integrated into staff onboarding and toolbox talks.
Looking Ahead
As you plan for 2026, we encourage all sites to stay engaged with Operation Clean Sweep and keep their certification current. Maintaining certification demonstrates your commitment to preventing pellet loss, protecting local waterways, and upholding responsible manufacturing standards – something customers, councils and partners increasingly expect.
A huge thank you to all sites that have completed their audits or submitted their annual self-assessments this year. Your work plays a crucial role in lifting environmental performance across the industry and strengthening our collective reputation. Your dedication is greatly appreciated!
