Cap and Lids Recycling Scheme Launched
This week (5th Sept) The Packaging Forum team was proud to launch its latest project, the Cap and Lids Recycling Scheme, which is providing a pathway for the metal and plastic caps and lids excluded from kerbside collections.
There is an estimated 16,000 tonnes of metal and plastic caps and lids in circulation in New Zealand annually; and this Scheme is designed to ensure as many of those caps and lids as possible are diverted from landfill, and instead placed back in the recycling and circular economy.
From today, collections boxes for a variety of caps and lids will be available in selected NewWorld, PAK’nSAVE and FourSquare supermarkets in Auckland, Tauranga and Christchurch; with more regions and collection points being available to Kiwis in the coming weeks. Interest has been high from many, and we're rapt to be working with the likes of the Zero Waste network and Environment Hubs Aotearoa to grow our community network.
NewWorldBirkenhead was officially the first collection point in the country, receiving their collection boxes from The Packaging Forum at a special in-store ribbon-cutting event.
Many thanks to our foundation members for your commitment FoodstuffsNZ, Lion, Asahi Beverages, Goodman Fielder, Wadding Solutions, Pact Group Holdings Ltd, Sanitarium, Nestlé, Pharmapac NZ, L'Oréal, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.
