EPS is used extensively in the building and construction industries for insulation, building facades, as a fill in domestic housing slabs and in the construction of marinas, road and railway embankments.

EPS is also used as a fill in the construction of road and railway embankments, where the load of traditional fill would place unacceptably high loading on the underlying soils.
