A standout moment at Wellington's The Post Gold Awards, Wellington region's premier annual business celebration, was Uniplas NZ Limited being named the 2026 Bluestar Green Gold Winner for sustainability programmes and products.

Held on the 2nd July at Wellington's Embassy Theatre the awards, sponsored by The Post, recognise Greater Wellington businesses, entrepreneurs and organisations.

The Bluestar Green Gold Award recognises those businesses who are leading the way in developing sustainability programmes & products to take us into the future.

Uniplas NZ is leading sustainable manufacturing with one of New Zealand’s largest rooftop solar arrays - 1,622 panels covering 5,300m², generating 70–90% of its energy and saving over 80 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Their holistic approach includes renewable energy, hybrid and electric vehicles, and circular product design, such as fully circular bread crates.

Uniplas has cut waste by 50%, reduced its carbon footprint by 54%, and is an active member of Project Clean Sweep.

Their innovations set a benchmark for sustainable change in the plastics industry, proving that environmental responsibility drives resilience and growth.

"We are thrilled to have taken out a Wellington Green Gold Award this year. For a plastics manufacturer, this recognition means a great deal. Our industry often gets a hard time around sustainability, so we hope this shows that manufacturing businesses like ours can lead from the front when it comes to reducing our environmental footprint. Our solar installation has been a game changer for Uniplas, and we are proud to be demonstrating what is possible for other manufacturers in our region and across New Zealand” (Richard Whitmore, Managing Director, Uniplas NZ Limited)

A strong result for Uniplas NZ, and well-deserved recognition for Joseph and Richard Whitmore and the team at Uniplas NZ!
